Beta Zeta-Topeka
BETA ZETA has celebrated 65 years in ESA. The Beta Zeta chapter from Topeka, KS was chartered in August of 1946 with three members. An International representative was sent to help organize the chapter after being contacted by Beryle Elliott. Beta Zeta gradually pledged more members, but because they were all young with some being married to servicemen, there was a continual turnover. They managed to maintain a steady membership of about 15 members until the 1970’s when they were 23 members strong.
In the earlier years when the treasury was low on funds, they sold greeting and Christmas cards. For the first 30 years the chapter was very active and had numerous money making and service projects. One of those being, making curtains for the Capper Foundation House. During the 1951 flood, Beryle’s home was the collecting point for clothing for the flood stricken victims. Some days her porch would be full of boxes which had come in from all over the state.
Beta Zeta is proud to have two members who served as State Council Presidents, Beryle Elliott and Louise Woods. They have had a number of their members who have served on the State Council and as Zone and District officers. All current members have served in all of their chapter offices. Presently the chapter is made up of nine members. One of their members recently moved out of town and they have lost two members to death in the last six months. They continue to meet regularly and have a lesson each month.
Their sisterhood is something they value. Beta Zeta plans to continue to “Let Their Life Speak” by staying active with Epsilon Sigma Alpha and their local chapter.
In 2011-2012 they donate food and paper goods to Rescue Mission. Stormont Vail has been their December mission for many years. Knit hats for the NICU babies and donate blankets. They also make stockings for newborn babies in December
