Delta Epsilon-Rose Hill
Delta Epsilon was chartered on October 27, 1983 in Rose Hill, Kansas. Joan Bourn and Kay Foster performed the chartering, installation and initiation ceremonies. We had 15 charter members — 13 from Rose Hill and 2 from Wichita. Most of those women lived within a 3 block radius! Of the original 15, three members remain active today — Claudia Richardson, Cindy Rodman and Sue Tanner. We have been a rather “transient” group over the years as many of these families worked for the aircraft industry or were in the air force and were transferred to other locations. Eventually, most of us have moved to Wichita.
Our first fund raiser was a “Sunshine Platter” that we served during the Rose Hill Fall Festival. It consisted of: a sloppy Joe, chips and a drink - all for $2.00! We sold a lot of sunshine platters over the years — it was a great bargain and we even added some new members to the chapter because they sow us having so much fun at our booth, We began cooking the night before and had a “slumber party” of sorts at Cindy’s house.
Eleven years ago, Delta Epsilon began selling poinsettias as their primary fund raiser. Within 24 hours of delivery of the poinsettia’s from the nursery, all are delivered. We sell over 400 annually to businesses and individuals. You should see Pat’s garage.
One of our favorite philanthropic fund raisers was our annual canister drive for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Junior High youth from the United Methodist Church and some of their friends would take one Saturday in January to canvas the town for donations. Sorority members would drive the kids to each area in town and help them as needed. After the canister drive, all would gather for lunch and hot chocolate. At the St. Jude Radiothon, the kids would get to present their donation to the Di’s.
Delta Epsilon celebrated its’ 25th anniversary with an open house. Many current and former members as well as guests enjoyed looking through old scrapbooks and sharing an afternoon of favorite memories.
In 2012-2013 the chapter had 19 members. In 2011-2012 they had a team called “Jonquil Girls” that participated in a Susan B Komen Walk for the Cure event. They also stuffed backpacks at the Kansas food Bank. They took on a new project called Victory in the Valley which is an organization that offers support and information to area cancer patients. They also support a project called, “A Million Thanks” which was established to send messages of support to military members serving overseas.
