Epsilon Eta Chapter in Topeka was chartered May 27, 1953. Although the list of charter members is unavailable, Jenny Scrinopskie was a founding member of the chapter. She was active for almost 50 years until her health did not allow her to participate. She passed away on June 19, 2017.
The chapter currently has 5 members, Jackie Engleken, Angie Fairbanks, Sharon Groff, Cheryl Pucket, and Joy Thornbrugh; who are very active in ESA. Angie is the ESA for St. Jude Junior Coordinator and a Past Kansas State Council President; Cheryl, is Kansas State Council 2nd Vice President; Joy is a Past Kansas State Council President and serves on the Kansas State Council philanthropic committee with Sharon, who is also District A Chairperson. Jackie Engleken is Co-Chair of the Kansas State Council Easter Seals Committee.
We are proud of the members’ and chapter accomplishments, especially the recognition afforded Jackie Engelken as Easter Seals/Capper Foundation Adult Volunteer of 2017. The chapter has been recognized by the Kansas State Council for donations and work for Easter Seals/Capper Foundation, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Heartspring, and our combined philanthropic activities. In addition to all IC and State projects, Epsilon Eta supports the following charities with donations and service hours: Helping Hands Humane Society, Sheltered Living, The Women’s Center for Empowerment, Topeka Rescue Mission, and Colmery VA Hospital.
Epsilon Eta established a memorial scholarship through ESA Foundation in the name of a former member Linda Cronin. This scholarship has benefitted students in the northeast counties of Kansas with an annual scholarship stipend.
Three of our members have joined the chapter as transfers; Cheryl Pucket moved for southwest Kansas, Angie Fairbanks moved from Manhattan, KS, and Joy Thornbrugh moved from Independence, KS.
